Eilean Donan 1
We departed sweet, beautiful Skye on a bitterly cold day in December, bound for Edinburgh. On the "must do" list was a visit to Eilean Donan castle, located at Caol Loch Ailsh (that's Kyle of Loch Alsh to the Sasannachs).
This was at the peak of Storm Barbara with winds gusting as high as 90 mph (145 kph) and temperatures in the highlands around -5 in the early hours. Wearing only light gloves, so as to be able to use the camera, meant numb fingers that needed to be warmed under arms every 3 or 4 minutes. Other than that, it was pretty much like any other seaside shoot, skating about on wet rocks and squelching through piles of cold, soggy weed. As a bonus, we pretty much had the place to ourselves, with only a handful of resolutes dropping by to share the perfect Scottish conditions.
